Auto Mechanic Schools by State

The following is a list of auto mechanic schools by state. Different states can have varying levels of educational requirements to earn professional certification as automotive mechanics and some schools may provide classes which only meet their state's licensing requirements. Do not assume that all states require the same classes and training for certification.

  • In general, auto mechanic schools may offer classes outside of mechanical repair and maintenance such as classes in mathematics, writing, communications, and customer service.
  • Some schools may provide training programs for working with a specific type of auto manufacturer such as GM, Ford or Audi. These classes can fulfill requirements by automakers for working in their OEM service centers. Check with your school of choice to learn more about OEM certification requirements.

The schools may specialize wholly in mechanical programs or may be part of a larger network of schools offering education beyond automotive repair and maintenance. Some may also focus on one auto mechanic program (engine or collision repair) and may offer either a degree or a certification. Schools may also provide both classroom and hands-on education.
